Education FAQs

Classroom, Virtual, and Online Courses Are Available

  • To view and register for NEFAR's classroom or virtual courses, visit the Education, NEFAR Classroom, and Virtual tab.
  • To view and register for online courses available through NEFAR's online course partners, visit the Education, Online Course Partners tab.
Virtual vs. Online Courses - Two Different Categories of Classes
  • Virtual Courses: Taught by a live instructor on a specified date and time, just like a classroom course. Register for virtual courses on the Education | NEFAR Classroom and Virtual tab. The day before the class, persons registered are emailed a link with instructions that permit them to join the virtual class at the appointed time, via a video conferencing program (such as Zoom) NEFAR's virtual courses are a new option. There is no cost for them, at this time.
  • Online Courses: Online courses don't include a live instructor and are not held at a specific date or time. For your convenience, they are accessible 24/7, 365 through an online course provider's public website. These online courses are not new, NEFAR has offered them for years through our course partner, The CE Shop, which offers a range of classes. As the course partner produces the courses, most require a fee. View and enroll in classes on the Education > Online Course Partners tab.

Code of Ethics Requirement - Realtor® Membership AND Florida License Renewal

Code of Ethics course completion is a Realtor® association membership requirement mandated by the National Association of Realtors® (NAR). Effective in 2018, the State of Florida also includes the completion of an ethics course as a licensing renewal requirement.

Regardless of when your license expires, all NEFAR Realtor® members must take an approved ethics class within the time frame established by NAR to maintain their Realtor® association membership, and also in accordance with the 2018 State of Florida real estate education licensing law to renew and maintain an active Florida real estate license. Compliance deadlines are:

DBPR Requirement:

  • If your standard renewal date is March 30: all education requirements (including ethics) must be met prior to that date.
  • If your standard renewal date is Sept. 30: all education requirements (including ethics) must be met prior to that date.

NAR Requirement:

  • Dec. 31 (every three years - example: end of 2021, end of 2024, etc.) – Regardless of your license expiration date! To maintain membership in a Realtor® association, you are required to complete an approved ethics course during every three-year Code of Ethics requirement cycle.
  • The code of ethics course taken to renew your license can be used to meet the NAR requirement. NEFAR is not furnished with course completion reports from other course providers for classes you have taken, nor does NEFAR receive notice from the State of Florida, Dept. of Business and Professional regulation regarding classes you take so you will need to send us a copy of the certificate of completion so that we can update your NEFAR member record and in turn update NAR.

The most recent NAR Code of Ethics cycle ended Dec. 31, 2021. The current NAR Code of Ethics cycle began Jan. 1, 2022 and ends Dec. 31, 2024.

Florida Education License Renewal Requirements

Florida license renewal is conducted online via www.MyFloridaLicense.com.

Sales associates: In their first renewal period, sales associates must complete the 45 Hour Salesperson's Post Licensing Course only. Successfully completing the GRI I course also satisfies this requirement. Taking miscellaneous classes that total 45 hours does not satisfy the requirement. If you are not in your first renewal period, you must complete 14 hours of continuing education credits - three of which must be Core Law, three must be ethics, plus eight hours of specialty credit (any other continuing education approved course; any subject).

Brokers: Brokers must complete 60 hours of Broker Post Licensing (initial renewal only). Taking both GRI II and GRI III satisfies this requirement (each class is 30 hours).

Tracking Education Credits: You are responsible for retaining any course completion certificate for classes you take, optimally for seven years (in case of audit). You can view and track your credits at www.MyFloridaLicense.com. NEFAR has records on only those classes for which NEFAR is the CE provider. NEFAR electronically reports all CE credits within 30 days maximum (usually within two weeks) to the Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation.

NEFAR is not furnished with course completion reports from other course providers for classes you have taken, nor does NEFAR receive notice from the State of Florida, Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation regarding classes you take. All CE credit requirements must be completed by the renewal date indicated on your real estate license.

New Member Orientation

Mandatory for Primary Realtor® Members: Orientation is a mandatory online class for all primary Realtor® members of NEFAR. Orientation must be completed within 90 days of joining. Secondary members are not required to attend NEFAR Orientation since they should have already completed Orientation through their primary Realtor® association.

Scheduling: Upon joining as a primary Realtor® member, you will be emailed a link to activate your student account for orientation.   The email should arrive 24 - 48 hours after you have paid your dues to join NEFAR.

Agenda and Requirements: To meet the NEFAR New Member Orientation requirement you will need to complete both orientation and ethics courses online within 90 days of joining NEFAR.

If you fail to complete the NEFAR New Member Orientation within your 90 day period your membership will be made inactive and you will forfeit your membership application. To rejoin you will need to complete the required training and pay the $250 application fee again.

The orientation and ethics courses are self-paced, with the average completion time for the orientation between 2-3 hours and ethics around 3 hours.

Upon individual course completions, you will be able to retrieve a certificate of completion (see the quick links “Completion Certificates” in your account dashboard). Please retain these two certificates for your own records. NEFAR is automatically notified of course completions, so you will not need to send a copy to NEFAR.

You will receive your REALTOR® pin in the mail to the address on file in your NEFAR member record, usually within 4 weeks of completing both portions of the NEFAR New Member Orientation (Orientation & Ethics).
